& coming skyscrapers in New York and internationally

Joined by three leaders of the Brookfield team

RIC CLARK, JOHN ZUCCOTTI, and DENNIS FRIEDRICH.

On Tuesday, June 18, The Skyscraper Museum presented the 2013 Making New York History Award to Brookfield Office Properties. On the 25th anniversary of the completion of the World Financial Center and its re-christening in 2013 as Brookfield Place, we celebrated Brookfield's key role in the commercial life of lower Manhattan and the quality of urban spaces in New York. As owners, managers, and developers of a portfolio of premier skyscrapers in the city's downtown and midtown markets, as well as in its new development Manhattan West, Brookfield continues to make its mark on the New York skyline.

More than 140 guests gathered in the Museum's gallery to toast to Brookfield and its executive team. The evening's remarks began with a welcome by Museum Director Carol Willis, who described the history of the World Financial Center complex. She noted that the design by Cesar Pelli and Associates of the ensemble of four towers, the Winter Garden, and the public plaza represents a remarkable design that has only improved with time, with the growing population of Battery Park City and with its enlarged role in the life of native New Yorkers and millions of tourists.

Noting the key figures and firms of the original design team that were in attendance, she introduced Cesar Pelli, who extended his praise for all the professionals involved in the project. Bridging the generations from the World Financial Center to the evolving Brookfield Place was Rafael Pelli, Cesar's son and partner in Pelli Clarke Pelli, who spoke of the new designs that connect the center to the new World Trade Center to the east and to the public space on the waterfront.

Accepting the award for Brookfield Office Properties were Chairman John Zuccotti and CEO Dennis Friedrich. Having worked with the original developers of the World Financial Center, Olympia & York, John Zuccotti recalled the successful cooperation of the entire team of government, Battery Park City Authority, developers, and designers that produced such an extraordinary result. Dennis Friedrich noted the energy and optimism around the future of Brookfield Place.
